Coty Woods Selected by Rangers in Rule 5 Draft

December 6, 2012
Coty Woods, a Texas League All-Star in 2012 for the Drillers, was selected by the Texas Rangers in the Rule 5 Draft that was held at the Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee. Woods must remain on the Ranger Major League Roster throughout the 2013 season or be offered back to the Colorado Rockies.

Woods was was 3-2 with a 0.76 ERA and 16 saves for the Drillers in 2012. He would have likely pitched for AAA Colorado Springs in 2013 if he would have remained with the Rockies.

First baseman Nate Freiman, who played with San Antonio last season, was selected by the Houston Astros. Like Woods, Freiman played in the 2012 Texas League All-Star Game at ONEOK Field and won the pre-game Home Run Derby.
