Cougars spoil Rattlers return home

July 7, 2012
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were looking forward to a home game after a rough six-game road trip to Iowa. But, Angel Baez and the Kane County Cougars wrecked the Wisconsin return to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium with a 5-1 win over the home team. Baez struck out five over six innings and sent the Rattlers to their third straight loss.

Kane County (44-42 overall, 10-6 second half) got off to a fast start with a first inning run. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller hit Justin Trapp to start the game. Trapp stole second and went to third on a single by Jack Lopez. A sacrifice fly by Daniel Mateo got Trapp home for a 1-0 Cougars lead.

The Cougars made it 3-0 in the top of the third inning. Daniel Mateo drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. Miller got Jorge Bonifacio to ground into a 6-4-3 double play that let in another run.

Cameron Garfield, who had two hits in the game, put Wisconsin (51-34, 7-9) on the board with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. But, that was the only run the Timber Rattlers would get.

A two-run homer by Alex Llanos in the top of the sixth inning had padded the Kane County lead.

Baez turned the ball over to the Cougars bullpen to start the seventh and a pair of Kane County relievers held the Rattlers off the scoreboard over the final three innings to maintain the lead and eventually close out the game. The trio of Cougars pitchers held Wisconsin to four hits in the game.

Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Fond du Lac native Chad Pierce (2-3, 4.45) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County has Bryan Brickhouse (1-0, 5.14) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 1:05pm.

The first 500 fans to attend the game will receive a magnet from Lamers Bus Lines of former Timber Rattler - and current Toronto Blue Jay - Brett Lawrie. This is magnet #2 in a series of four that are being given away during the 2012 season.

Before the game fans can play catch on-field courtesy of American Eagle. Timber Rattlers players will be available for an autograph session after the game. Time Warner Cable customers can receive up to four half-priced reserved bleacher tickets when showing their TWC bill at time of ticket purchase.

As part of 107.5, The Fan Brewers Sunday, Rattlers players will be wearing Brewers-themed jerseys on-field during the game.
