Cubs, 'Topes Suspended by Rain

July 30, 2010
July 30, 2010 (Albuquerque, NM) - The Iowa Cubs scored four runs in nine minutes in the top of the first inning before rain delay halted play at Isotopes Park tonight. After waiting approximately 90 minutes, the field was ruled unplayable and the Cubs' game against the Albuquerque Isotopes was suspended. The game will be resumed when the Cubs return to Albuquerque on Tuesday, August 31st at 5:00 p.m. Central Time. The game will be picked up where it was left off and played through nine innings. The regularly scheduled game for August 31st will be a seven-inning contest.

Play will resume with the Cubs leading 4-0 and Bryan LaHair batting with the bases empty, one out, and a 2-0 count. Isotopes' starter John Ely walked Sam Fuld to start the game and Darwin Barney moved him to second with a base hit to right. After Bobby Scales struck out, Micah Hoffpauir ripped a double down the right field line that drove in Fuld and Barney. Ty Wright followed with a homer to left field to complete the scoring. It was Wright's first home run since joining the I-Cubs on June 27th. These stats will become official once the game is completed in August.

The Cubs travel to Oklahoma City on Saturday to start a four-game series against the RedHawks to complete this road trip. RH Jeff Samardzija (7-1, 2.64) will start for the Cubs against LH Michael Ballard (5-5, 4.79) for the RedHawks. The game will start at 7:05 and will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the Safeco On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:40.
