Curve delay Procrastination Night

August 31, 2008
The Altoona Curve's long-planned and well-publicized "Salute to Procrastination Night" has been pushed back to the 2009 season after the club realized Saturday that it still hadn't organized the promotion with only four home games remaining in the current season.

The Curve will now have seven months to plan the details of a 2009 incarnation of the promotion.

"The good news is that when you plan a promotion called 'Salute to Procrastination Night' you can't really take any heat for continually putting off the planning of the night... it's like a built in excuse!," said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell, while wearing the same faded green shirt as was depicted on his bobblehead figurine, which was given away to fans attending the August 20 home game at Blair County Ballpark.

The Curve first announced "Salute to Procrastination Night" during their annual pre-season press release documenting the team's promo schedule. In late May, a separate release announced that the club still had not planned the promotion, citing the fact that still over half of the season remained at that point. By late July, the Curve issued yet another release, once again declaring that there was still plenty of time left in the season to make the promotion happen. As it turns out, no amount of midnight oil could have been burned this week to properly plan the promotion for this weekend's season-ending homestand.

"We take pride in being detail-oriented and properly planning ahead, but admittedly we just didn't get around to it," added Parnell. "We'll give it another shot next season although we may have to change the name of the promotion to 'Better Late Than Never Night.'"

Fans planning to attend the club's season-ending four-game homestand this weekend at Blair County Ballpark against the Reading Phillies (AA/Philadelphia Phillies) shouldn't worry about any promotions that have been previously announced not happening. All promotions will go off without a hitch, including Post-Game Fireworks following both the Friday (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday (6:05 p.m.) games vs. Reading, an appearance by Myron Noodleman and the Chris Duffy/J.R. House Tenth Anniversary Photo Ball Giveaway on Saturday (7:05 p.m.), and the Home Finale on Monday afternoon at 12:05 p.m., featuring the Curve's unique "Field of Dreams" promotion. Prior to Monday's contest, Curve players will emerge from corn stalks in center field in the same way that "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and the rest of the early 20th century players did in the hit baseball movie Field of Dreams.

Great seats remain for the Curve's final four home games and can be reserved by visiting the Blair County Ballpark Ticket Office or calling (877) 99-CURVE. Fans can also order and print tickets on-line at AltoonaCurve.com.
