Early-Afternoon Games

Pirates 10, Spain 0 Box »

The Pirates and their top prospect, right-hander Gerrit Cole, proved too much for Team Spain in an exhibition game leading up to the World Baseball Classic. The top overall pick in the 2011 Draft, Cole struck out the first six batters he faced before running into a little trouble in the third inning. Back-to-back singles left the UCLA product dealing with men at the corners, but Cole picked off a runner and got a groundout to end the threat.
