Danville Braves Announce 2011 Roster

Thirteen draftees highlight season opening roster

DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves released their 2011 roster today. The roster is highlighted by 13 draftees from the 2011 class and some familiar faces D-Braves fans had the opportunity to see during the 2010 campaign.

The roster is comprised of 35 players, including 20 pitchers, three catchers, seven infielders, and five outfielders.

The entire pitching staff aside from Matt Chaffee, is made up of right handers. The rest of the pitchers are Jonathan Burns, John Cornely, Dave Filak, Ignacio Geronimo, J.R. Graham, Lucas LaPoint, Joe Lucas, Cody Martin, Jarrett Miller, Williams Perez, Wilson Rivera, Greg Ross , Gus Schlosser, Ernesto Silva, and Daniel Winnie. To round out the pitching staff on the Braves roster is Evan Danieli, Luis De Luna, Reidy Escobar, and Daniel Lopez, all of whom will start the season on the disabled list.

Two of the catchers spent some time in Danville in 2010, Ryan Delgado and Ryan Query, return for the 2011 season. Nick Santiago joins them as the Atlanta Braves fifth round selection in June's draft.

The eight infielders are William Beckwith, Fernando De Los Santos, Brandon Drury, Elmer Reyes, and Edison Sanchez. The Braves second and third round draft picks, Nick Ahmed and Kyle Kubitza, respectively, will complete the infield.

The Fleming brothers, Kenny and Kurt, will be patrolling the outfield in Legion Field this season along with three draftees. Chase Larsson (9th), Tony Mueller (13th), and Sam Munson (23rd) will all get their first chance at professional baseball.

For the first time since 2004 the Danville Braves have a new manager at the helm. Randy Ingle, who has now spent 33 years in the Braves organization, has previously managed the Pulaski Braves from 1990-92. Ingle is joined by an all new staff as well. Gabe Luckert is the pitching coach and DJ Boston is the hitting coach this season. Alongside them will be the team's athletic trainer, Kyle Damschroder, and their strength and conditioning coach, Michael Boren.

The Danville Braves open the 2011 regular season tonight at Pulaski. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.. The home opener will be June 27 with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch as well when the D-Braves take on the Princeton Rays. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Danville Braves magnet schedule on opening night. The first homestand also features a Bobby Cox bobblehead giveaway on July 1, and a post-game fireworks show on July 3.
