Dash announce All-Star Game events

Home Run Derby, fireworks highlight day of big game
February 21, 2012
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Fans will get a sneak peek of the 2012 All-Stars as BB&T Ballpark will open early prior to the California League-Carolina League All-Star Game in Winston-Salem on June 19, 2012. Fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from the All-Stars and watch batting practice prior to the Home Run Derby and 16th annual Class A Advanced Midsummer Classic.

June's contest will mark first time that Winston-Salem has hosted the All-Star Game under its current format and the seventh time overall. Winston hosted the Carolina League All-Star Game at Ernie Shore Field, the team's old ballpark, six times, most recently in 1993. The schedule for gameday at BB&T Ballpark is as follows:

* 3:30 p.m. -- Gates open for fans to watch batting practice; concessions and the kids zone open
* 5:30 p.m. -- All-Star Home Run Derby begins
* 7 p.m. -- All-Star pregame festivities begin with player introductions and a special ceremony
* 7:15 p.m. -- First pitch for the 16th California League-Carolina League All-Star Game
* Postgame -- Spectacular fireworks show

In the past three years, 28 alumni from the All-Star Game have gone on to play in the Majors, including 2010 National League Rookie of the Year Buster Posey, and rising stars, Eric Hosmer and Julio Teheran. Former Winston-Salem All-Stars Eduardo Escobar and Gregory Infante have also gone on to play in the big leagues.

At this time, only current Dash season ticket holders are able to guarantee their ability to purchase tickets to the All-Star Game and its related festivities. Ticket plans range from 7-game to 70-game packages with a wide variety of options to choose from.
