Dash Smash P-Nats with Eight Run 2nd Inning

Winston-Salem Blasts Potomac 15-4 to Open Series
June 11, 2012
(WINSTON-SALEM, NC) - The Winston-Salem Dash used a eight run second inning to cruise to a 15-4 win over the Potomac Nationals. Potomac has dropped all five games in BB&T Ballpark to the Dash by a combined score of 46-15.

The Dash opened the scoring off of Potomac starter Matt Swynenberg with a Brady Shoemaker sac fly in the first to make it 1-0.

Winston-Salem sent 11 batters to the plate in the eight run second inning. It was highlighted by Shoemaker's two-run double and a two-RBI triple by Trayce Thompson that chased Swynenberg from the game. Swynenberg (4-4) took the loss giving up a career-high eight runs in just one a two-thirds innings.

Ryan Demmin came in for Swynenberg and gave up a two-run homer to the first batter he faced Cyle Hankerd that gave the Dash a 9-1 lead after two innings. The eight run second is the biggest inning the Nationals have yielded this year.

After Winston-Salem added a run to make it 10-0 in the third, Potomac would score against Dash starter Jon Bachanov in the fourth inning on a Randolph Oduber sac fly but that would be it against the righty. Bachanov (5-1) got the win allowing just one run over five and two-third innings.

Winston-Salem continued the scoring with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth on a homer by Shoemaker -- his 11th of the year which is tied for the most in the Carolina League to extend the Dash lead to 13-1.

Brent Greer who started the contest as the DH came into the eighth to pitch for Potomac. After retiring the first two batters, he gave up a homer and then walked four straight batters. Greer gave up two runs and the Nationals trailed 15-1 after eight. He was the second position player to pitch for the Nationals this year. Chris Curran tossed against Winston-Salem in a May 1st game.

Zach Walters hit a three-run homer in the ninth to deep right field but the Nationals fell 15-4.

Shoemaker led the Winston-Salem attack with six RBI. Carlos Sanchez had four hits as well. Adrian Sanchez had three hits for Potomac who left 11 runners on base.

Potomac and Winston-Salem continue their three-game series tomorrow at 7:00 PM in North Carolina. The P-Nats send RHP Adam Olbrychowski (2-5, 5.83) to the hill. The Nationals return home to Pfitzner Stadium Thursday, June 21st against the Winston-Salem Dash.
