Davenport lifts Jays into Finals

Ron Davenport homered and drove in the winning run as Dunedin edged Fort Myers, 3-2, to earn a spot in the Florida State League Finals.

The Blue Jays move on to face St. Lucie in the first game of the best-of-5 series on Friday.

Rain delayed the first pitch for more than two hours, but Davenport made it worth the home crowd's while when the game resumed by cranking a two-out solo blast in the first inning.

Dunedin trailed in the eighth, 2-1, when Eric Nielsen drove in Aaron Mathews with a single to left to forge a deadlock.

Connor Falkenbach (1-0) held the Miracle scoreless over the next two frames, setting the scene for Davenport's series-clinching RBI. He plated Juan Peralta, who had slapped a two-out single and stolen second.

The 24-year-old left fielder batted .321 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs in 56 games for the Blue Jays, who rallied after losing the first game to defeat the Miracle.

Davenport, Nielsen, Peralta and Robinzon Diaz each had two of the Blue Jays' 12 hits.

Falkenbach tossed four one-hit frames, fanning four and walking one. Starter Orlando Trias gave up two runs -- one earned -- one four hits in seven innings. The 22-year-old right-hander struck out a season-high seven while walking two.

Fort Myers' Steven Tolleson went 0-for-3, but walked twice and scored both of the Miracle's runs. Brock Peterson had two of Fort Myers' five hits.

Reliever Timothy Lahey (0-1) came on in the 10th and surrendered the game-winning run on three hits and three walks in 1 2/3 frames.

Fort Myers starter Anthony Swarzak allowed a run on five hits in seven innings, fanning four and walking one. Daniel Powers entered in the eighth with a 2-1 lead and allowed the tying run on four hits over two frames while fanning one.
