Melky Mesa was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 2003. Mesa was a member of the Tampa Yankees 2010 Florida State League Championship team and was named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Mesa completed the 2010 season with notable numbers. He had .260 batting average, scored 81 runs and stole 31 bases. Mesa also had some impressive power numbers, leading the team with 19 homeruns and second on the team with 74 RBI. An injury kept Mesa from playing in the post-season, but he still attended every game and supported his team.

Mesa walked away from the 2010 season with a couple of accolades. To go along with his Most Valuable Player award the FSL named Mesa Player of the Week, in August, 2010, and named him to the Post-Season All-Star team.

Mesa has appeared in several Spring Training games so far, and will continue to climb his way to the Big Leagues.
