DJ LeMahieu promoted to Chicago Monday

KODAK, Tenn. - DJ LeMahieu's promotion today to the Chicago Cubs headlines a series of roster moves announced by the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Cubs. OF Brett Jackson has been activated from the disabled list, while catcher Steve Clevenger was optioned from Triple-A Iowa to Tennessee. OF Junior Lake and P Nicholas Struck have been promoted from High-A Daytona. In related roster moves, P Rob Whitenack was placed on the disabled list and Jae-Hoon Ha was optioned to Daytona.

These moves are immediate and to take effect in advance of tonight's game against Huntsville.

LeMahieu heads to Chicago after hitting .358 (67-for-187), which was best in the Southern League, with two home runs and 27 RBI with Tennessee in 2011. Baseball America had LeMahieu as the 11th ranked prospect in the Cubs organization heading into the season. The West Bloomfield, Mich. native was selected by the Cubs in the second round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Jackson returns to the Smokies after being on the DL since May 12th. In 2011, he is hitting .295 (33-for-112) with seven doubles, three triples, four home runs and 17 RBI. Jackson was named the second-ranked prospect in the Cubs organization, heading into 2011. The Orinda, Calf. native was selected in the first round (31st overall) of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Clevenger returns to Tennessee having started the season with the Smokies. While in Tennessee, he hit .356 (32-for-90) with three home runs and 18 RBI. The 2010 Mid-season All-Star was the Cubs' seventh round selection in the 2006 Draft.

Lake joins the Smokies for the first time in 2011, having started the season in Daytona. While with the "D-Cubs," he hit .315 (64-for-203) with 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs, and 19 stolen bases. Lake was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Cubs in 2006.

Struck come to Tennessee for the first time in his career. In 10 starts in Daytona, he was 6-2 with a 3.42 ERA. In 50 innings, Struck has allowed 55 hits and 16 walks while striking out 47. The Damascus, Ore. native was the Cubs' 39th round selection in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Whitenack heads to the disabled list after an impressive showing since being promoted to Tennessee on April 27. In seven starts, he is 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA. In 37.2 innings pitched, Whitenack has allowed 10 runs on 32 hits, while walking 13 and striking out 22. The North Massapequa, NY native was selected by the Cubs in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Ha is sent to Daytona after hitting .267 (12-for-45) with three doubles, 1 home run and seven RBI.
