Drive come from behind to win

Kibby opens Class A debut with 6.0 scoreless innings

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 30, 2012) -- The Greenville Drive scored four runs over the seventh and eighth innings to come from behind and beat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-2, on Thursday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Matt Marquis put the Drive ahead, 4-2, with a two-run single in the eighth inning. Marquis, in his first game back with Greenville after a stint with Short-Season Lowell, went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Todd Kibby opened his Class A debut with Kannapolis with six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out five before walking the first two batters of the seventh inning. Stew Brase entered the game with two on and no outs in the seventh inning, loaded the bases and gave up a run-scoring single before inducing two ground balls to retire base runners at home plate. Brase (4-6) walked in the tying run in the seventh and gave up the go-ahead hit the Marquis in the eighth to suffer the loss.

Greenville starter Mickey Pena (8-7) completed seven strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks to earn the win. Matty Ott tossed two scoreless relief innings to pick the save (5).

Andrew Douglas led off the third inning with a double and scored on an Adam Heisler sac-fly for a 1-0 lead. Joey DeMichele, the White Sox third round pick in this June's draft, led off the fourth inning with a home run (4) to put the Intimidators ahead, 2-0.

The Intimidators open the final series of the 2012 season on Friday night as the Savannah Sand Gnats (New York Mets) come to CMC-NorthEast Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The Intimidators send LHP Jarrett Casey (5-7, 5.84) to the mound to take on LHP Alex Panteliodis (4-8, 3.72).
