Duffy's Heorics Propel BlueClaws to 6-1 Win

June 29, 2012
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Fireworks in the 8th inning precluded the post-game fireworks as the BlueClaws used a five-run inning to win 6-1 Friday over the Hagerstown Suns.

Chris Duffy played the role of hero for a second consecutive night with a go-ahead single with two outs in the 8th inning to break a 1-1 tie. Duffy extended his hitting streak to 15 games with the single and the BlueClaws took the lead for the first time since the 6th.

Three batters later Maikel Franco connected for his 7th home run of the season to make the game 6-1 and put the BlueClaws comfortably ahead.

Ryan Howard was in the lineup for the second consecutive night rehabbing his injured left Achilles tendon. Howard started at first base after starting at DH last night, and went 1-for-2 with a single in the first inning. Howard is now 3-for-6 with 3 RBI in two games/

The BlueClaws and Hagerstown will play the second game of a five-game series Saturday night. Game 2 of the series will kick off the back end of a season-long nine-game homestand at FirstEnergy Park. Lakewood will send Lino Martinez (3-4, 6.50) to the mound against Hagerstown's Chris McKenzie (2-2, 7.22).

It was reported by the Philadelphia Phillies that Ryan Howard will play in Saturday's game in his third rehab appearance for the BlueClaws.
