Dunigan Wins HR Derby, SL Hitter of the Week

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. (JUNE 20, 2012) - The Southern League announced today that Generals' outfielder/DH and 2012 Southern League All-Star Joe Dunigan has been named the league's Hitter of the Week. Dunigan also came away with the Southern League Home Run Derby crown on Tuesday night, in Kodak, Tenn. Dunigan took the Derby crown, putting eight balls over the fence over two rounds to take home the title. Dunigan beat out Smokies first baseman Justin Bour. The two power hitters had to go to a "hit-off" to decide the winner, after each hit one long ball in the Championship Round.

Dunigan, 26, has hit safely in his last 6 games, batting .320 (8x25) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, 3 home runs and 8 RBI. On the season, Dunigan is batting .277 batting average and team-best 12 home runs that ranks 3rd in the league, with 33 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Dunigan was selected by the Mariners in the 4th round of the 2007 draft out of the University of Oklahoma. The Chicago, Ill native is in his 6th professional season and has a career batting average of .251, with 88 home runs.

The Generals resume the regular season after the All-Star break on Thursday night against the Huntsville Stars, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. The Generals were the first half champions in the Southern League North Division and posted the league's best record at 42-28.
