Durango and Latos head to St. Louis

Former Ems to be featured in XM All-Star Futures Game

Eugene, OR. - Major League Baseball has announced that two former Eugene Emeralds have been named to the XM All-Star Futures Game roster. Right-handed pitcher Mat Latos and outfielder Luis Durango will have an opportunity to showcase their talent during the 11th annual XM All-Star Futures Game scheduled to take place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on July 12th.

Latos, currently playing in Double-A San Antonio owns a 4-1 record and a miniscule 1.89 ERA in seven starts for the Missions this season. The Florida native began his professional career with the Emeralds in 2007 going 1-4 with a 3.83 ERA in 16 games. Drafted in the 11th Round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, the 21-year-old also spent part of the 2008 season in Eugene making three starts and owning a 2-0 record.

Durango's only stint with the Emeralds came during the 2007 season where he hit .367 in 69 games and was named the Northwest League Most Valuable Player. Signed by the San Diego Padres as a non-drafted free agent in 2003, Durango also played for Panama in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Each major league organization is represented by at least one player. Latos will represent the U.S. Team, which will be managed by Hall of Famer and 15-time All-Star Ozzie Smith. Durango will represent the World Team, managed by St. Louis Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo.
