MOBILE, Ala. (May 24, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, erupted for 11 runs over a three-inning span and blanked the Biloxi Shuckers 12-0 Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jose Rodriguez (4-4) tossed six scoreless innings, his first quality start, and allowed just two hits to earn his third straight win. BayBears (25-21) starters have held Biloxi (28-19) scoreless over 11 2/3 innings in the first two games of the series.
For the second straight night, Luis Rengifo and Jared Walsh both had a pair of hits. Rengifo drove in four runs in the game, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple in the second. Walsh hit a three-run homer in the fourth, his 14th of the season and first with Mobile this year.
Michael Barash went a perfect 3-for-3, reached in all five plate appearances, and scored four runs.
Luis Ortiz (1-2) was tagged for five runs on five hits and lasted just an inning and two-thirds. Miguel Sanchez was the lone bright spot for Biloxi's pitching staff, giving up just one unearned run on one hit in three innings of relief. He struck out five straight batters to end his outing.
Mobile has won a season-high five straight home games and now trails first-place Biloxi by just 2 1/2 games in the South Division.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Biloxi Friday at 7:05 p.m. CDT.
