Early Runs for Dunedin Spoils T-Yanks Chances

August 22, 2012
Tampa, Fla. - Mother Nature opened up the sky tonight and stopped the rain for the Tampa Yankees (31-24) and the Dunedin Blue Jays (20-25) to play. The game went to the visiting Blue Jays 12-2. Shane Greene (4-5, 5.21 ERA) started on the mound for Tampa against Dunedin's Casey Lawrence (8-6, 3.68 ERA).

Dunedin's Kenny Wilson started off the game with a double, and scored when Oliver Dominguez followed with a single for a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, Jack Murphy launched the ball over the right field fence and put the Jays up 2-0. Dunedin's bats got hot in the third as they unleashed a seven run inning giving them commanding 9-0 lead after the three innings.

In the top of the fifth, the visitors added three more runs to their score and were up 12-0. In the bottom of the inning, Tampa finally got on the board. Slade Heathcott stepped up to bat with runners on first and second and singled to drive in one. Kyle Roller also singled scoring the second run of the inning. That is as close as the T-yanks would come and the game would end 12-2.

The two teams meet again at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Thursday, August 23 at 7:00pm. Thirsty Thursday is sponsored by ESPN 1040 and offers fans $1 soda, $1 ice cold 14 oz. draft beer, and $3 bottled beer from 6-8:00pm.
