Edmondson Powers Cardinals to Victory, 6-4
Jupiter, Fla.-The Palm Beach Cardinals (25-32) snapped their five-game losing streak as they held off the Fort Myers Miracle (25-31), 6-4.
Cardinals' starter Todd McInnis (3-6) had it working on Sunday night, tossing 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and striking out six. He would pick up the victory after a five-run fifth innings.
Miracle starter Kyle Gibson (0-0) made his second start since recovering from Tommy John surgery, the right-hander tossed four innings, scattering three hits and striking out six.
His lone blemish came in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Alan Ahmady hit his second home run of the season to tie it up at 1-1. Gibson would be removed in the top of the fifth, as his he reached his pitch limitation.
The Cardinals were glad to see him go, as they scored five runs off Miguel Munoz and Madison Boer. The Cardinals Tyler Rahmatulla and Ronny Gil walked on eight straight balls before James Ramsey connected for a single to load the bases. Neal Pritchard came up to the plate for the injured Starlin Rodriguez and drew a bases loaded walk to give the Cardinals a 2-1 edge. After the walk, the Miracle called on Madison Boer.
The right-hander was greeted by the bat of Chris Edmondson, who promptly smacked a home run over the left field fence to make it 6-1. Edmondson's eighth home run of the season was also his second Grand Slam of the week as he hit one on Tuesday night against the St. Lucie Mets.
The Miracle answered with three in the top of the sixth, as Danny Ortiz and Steve Liddle picked up RBI singles, while Daniel Santana drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Reliever Aidan Lucas put out the fire retiring Lance Ray with the bases loaded and two out. Lucas picked up his tenth hold of the season, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings, walking two and striking out four.
He turned the ball over to Zach Russell, who struggled through the ninth, but picked up back-to-back strikeouts of Josmil Pinto and Danny Rams to pick up his fourth save of the season.
The Cardinals are off tomorrow night, but return on Tuesday night to host the Charlotte Stone Crabs at 6:35 p.m.
