Erlin, Javelinas earn AFL Finals berth

Padres prospect strikes out six over five scoreless innings

The Javelinas clinched the Arizona Fall League's West Division and a spot in Saturday's championship game thanks to a stellar start by left-handed pitcher Robbie Erlin. The Padres' No. 8 prospect struck out six and allowed two hits in five scoreless innings to earn the win. Erlin concluded his AFL season with a 2-1 record and a 2.28 ERA. Mike Zunino (Mariners), Zach Collier (Phillies) and Nate Freiman (Padres) drove in Peoria's runs. Salt River 7, Surprise 3
Rockies' No. 20 prospect Kent Matthes hit a grand slam in the first inning for the Rafters, and that blast proved to be the difference for the East Division winners. Jason Martinson (Nationals) smacked a pinch-hit two-run blast in the eighth. Cory Riordan (Rockies) picked up the win after three scoreless frames. Royals prospect Whit Merrifield went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer for the Saguaros, while Hanser Alberto (Rangers) was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Recap | Gameday box score

Phoenix 8, Mesa 3
Braves' No. 6 prospect Zeke Spruill gave up two earned runs on three hits over five innings to lead the Desert Dogs to victory in the last game of their season. A's catcher Max Stassi went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Phoenix offense, and Marlins farmhand Kyle Jensen homered, doubled and scored twice.
