Evans Named EL Player of the Week

Binghamton Mets first baseman Nick Evans has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending April 18th. The 24-year old is off to an outstanding start for the B-Mets this season, batting .372 (16-for-43) with four doubles, three home runs, 11 runs scored, 10 RBI, five walks and a .674 slugging percentage over 10 games. Evans, who is currently a member of the New York Mets 40-man roster, has reached base in each of the 10 games he has played in this season and has multiple hits in six of those games, including going 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in a 7-4 win over the Erie SeaWolves last Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. The 6'2", 220 lb. slugger currently leads the league in hits (16), runs scored (11) and total bases (29), is tied for second in home runs (3), RBI (10) and extra-base hits (7), is ranked third in slugging percentage (.674) and fourth in batting average (.372) and OPS (1.103). Nick, who has combined to hit .301 with 17 home runs, 68 runs scored and 62 RBI in 100 games with Binghamton during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, was selected by the New York Mets in the fifth round of the 2004 draft out of St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona.
