Everidge's Three Run Homer The Difference

May 14, 2009
Travis Banwart and Tommy Everidge combined to lead the RockHounds to a 7-4 win at San Antonio Wednesday night, the first of an 8-game, 9-day road trip.

Travis entered the game as the Texas League's # 1 pitcher, with a 4-1 record and 1.93 ERA. He allowed single runs in the first and second, each coming on a two-out base hit, but that's all the Missions would get off the 'Hounds right-hander. When he left the game in the seventh, Banwart had allowed only two base runners (one walk and one error) after the first two innings.

"T" changed the course of the game on one, big, swing, ripping a line drive off the left field foul pole for a 3-run home run in the fourth ... the first time the 'Hounds had threatened against San Antonio starter Cesar Carrillo. The home run, Tommy's fourth of the year, gave the RockHounds a lead they would not relinquish.

In the fifth, Matt Sulentic triggered another 3-run rally, beating out an infield single ... stealing second and third and scoring on Corey Brown's single. Everidge then went the opposite way on a 3-1 offering from Carrilo, driving home his fourth and fifth runs of the game.

Micahel Affronti went hitless, but turned in the game's top defensive play (and one of the year's best so far) snaring a shot up the middle, and flipping the ball from his glove to Josh Howard, starting a 4-63 double play. Josh also had another excellent game at the plate, going 2-for 3, with a double and an RBI.

When San Antonio threatened in the ninth, former TCU star Sam Demel came in to record the final two outs and slam the door for his fifth save in as many chances.
