FEENEY HONORED AS MWL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - West Michigan Whitecaps pitcher Trevor Feeney turned in the 'Caps best pitching performance of the year on Saturday. Two days later, he has been recognized league-wide as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week.

On Saturday at Fifth Third Ballpark, the 23-year-old right-hander twirled a nine-inning complete game to lead the Whitecaps to a 3-1 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks. He allowed just one unearned run while scattering six hits, fanning seven and issuing one walk. It took Feeney just 107 pitches to navigate through his nine innings of work and he allowed multiple baserunners in an inning only once.

Feeney, a 31st-round pick out of Northern Illinois in 2008, has been a workhorse out of the West Michigan rotation. He currently leads the Midwest League with 56 innings pitched - an average of seven frames per start - and ranks third with 47 strikeouts. His average of 1.29 walks per nine innings is also among the league leaders, checking in fourth among Midwest League hurlers. Through eight starts this season, Feeney is 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA.

After winning three out of four games against South Bend, the Whitecaps resume their seven-game homestand at Fifth Third Ballpark with a 6:35 p.m. start on Tuesday, May 18, against the Lake County Captains, Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. LHP Jade Todd (0-5, 5.45) is scheduled to start for West Michigan against RHP Danny Salazar (1-1, 5.27) of the Captains.
