April 16, 2010

Jason Lane hammered a two-run double to give the Zephyrs the lead in a five-run seventh inning as visiting New Orleans spoiled Opening Night the Dell Diamond on Friday, beating the Round Rock Express 7-3.

The Zephyrs trailed 3-0 early after a pair of miscues led to two unearned runs. The New Orleans offense scratched out a run without a hit in the fourth inning, and did not collect a hit off Round Rock starter Polin Trinidad until the fifth inning.

Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, the Z's struck for five runs with two out against reliever Jared Wells. Lane's double scored two, and was followed by an RBI single by Scott Cousins and a two-run double by Danny Richar.

Chris Schroder tossed a scoreless sixth inning to pick up the win in relief of Hunter Jones, who allowed three runs - one earned - and five hits in five innings. Jones struck out six and walked one.

The Zephyrs bullpen, which entered play with a 10.33 ERA, combined to hold Round Rock without a hit over the final four innings.
