KODAK, Tenn. (July 15, 2017) - A five-run third inning helped the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, defeat the Tennessee Smokies 6-3 Saturday night at Smokies Stadium.
The BayBears (41-50 overall, 11-11 second half) plated five runs against Brett Anderson (1-2), making a Major League rehabilitation start for Tennessee. Anderson made a costly throwing error in the inning that led to a pair of unearned runs. Matt Thaiss and Jose Briceno both had RBI singles, and Zach Houchins drove in two runs with a base hit.
Tyler Carpenter allowed one run on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in his first start since coming off of the 7-day disabled list. Carpenter exited the game with a 5-1 lead, but he fell two outs shy of the requisite five innings and was not eligible to earn the win.
Tyler Warmoth (1-1), Justin Anderson , and Adam Hofacket did not allow an earned run over the final 4 2/3 innings.
The Smokies (50-42, 14-9) plated two unearned runs against Anderson in the seventh inning. Following a walk and a two-out throwing error, Ian Rice hit a two-run double to cut the Mobile lead to 5-3. However, the BayBears added a run of insurance on a Jose Briceno sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, and Hofacket recorded a six-out save.

Right-handed pitcher Grayson Long (4-5, 2.97 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Adbert Alzolay (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Smokies.
