Four Chiefs Named to All-Star Team
Hoilman made history from April 14 - May 24 with a franchise record 24-game hit streak, the longest in the Midwest League in more than seven seasons. He enters play on Monday hitting .272 with three home runs. Hoilman leads the Chiefs in doubles (17), triples (4), RBI (35), total bases (87), extra-base hits (24) and slugging percentage (.446). The doubles and RBI have him top 10 in the Midwest League. Hoilman, 23, was a 19th round draft pick in 2011 out of East Tennessee State.
Lopez is batting .265 with seven doubles, a triple and 12 RBI in 31 games. Lopez is currently on the disabled list with a concussion suffered on May 24. He also missed a week at the end of April with an eye infection. When he has been in the lineup, Lopez has produced as the Chiefs number three hitter and drawn 17 walks with just 13 strikeouts for a .350 on-base percentage. Lopez, 24, was drafted in the 16th round of last June's draft out of Florida State University.
DeVoss has been the Chiefs leadoff batter all season and the second baseman is hitting .244 with 10 doubles, a triple, two homers and 14 RBI. He leads the Chiefs in walks (31), runs scored (34) and stolen bases (13). Four different times this season DeVoss has strung together hit streaks of at least four games and he stole four bases in a game against Burlington on May 12. DeVoss, 21, was drafted by the Cubs in the third round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Miami.
Burke is the first player in Chiefs history to make the MWL All-Star team as both a position player and a pitcher. He was a 2009 MWL All-Star as an outfielder for the game in Clinton. This season he is 1-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 13 games and eight starts in his first full-season as a pitcher. The lefty has struck out 39 batters in 60 2/3 innings and gone at least five innings in all eight starts. He has held opponents to a .218 batting average and turned in five quality starts. Burke, 24, was acquired by the Cubs in June 2007 as part of the trade that sent Michael Barrett to San Diego. He was originally drafted by the Padres in the first supplemental round of the 2006 draft and hit .33 with 15 homers, 89 RBI and 93 runs scored for the Chiefs in 2009 while being named the Cubs MiLB Player of the Year.
Peoria is tied for the most All-Star starters on the West squad with Kane County. Overall only Wisconsin and Beloit who are in first and second place respectively have more All-Stars for the West team. Wisconsin has eight total selections while Beloit has seven. Quad Cities and Peoria have four each while Burlington, Clinton, Cedar Rapids and Kane County have three players each. The Midwest League All-Star game takes place on Tuesday, June 19 in Geneva, IL.
