MOBILE, Ala. (April 15, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, could not bounce back from a four-run first inning for the Montgomery Biscuits and dropped the series opener 6-2 Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
After the first four batters reached and scored in the top of the first, the BayBears (4-6) settled in and allowed just two runs the rest of the game. Jason Alexander pitched four scoreless, hitless innings out of the bullpen and faced the minimum.
The BayBears got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Following four hitless innings, three against Blake Bivens (1-0), Erick Salcedo hit a one-out triple and scored on a Jahmai Jones single. It was Jones' first RBI and third hit of the season. However, Mobile left runners on first and second in the frame.
In the bottom of the ninth, Julian Leon hit a two-out RBI double. Once again, the BayBears left two runners on base.
Jesús Sánchez led the way for Montgomery (6-4), going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored. Lucius Fox scored a pair of runs, and Kevin Padlo hit his first home run of the season off Jose Rodriguez (0-1) in the second.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Montgomery Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (0-1, 7.04 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Brendan McKay (0-0, 5.79 ERA) for the Biscuits.
