Four TinCaps added to Fall League

Nine total to play in prospect showcase
October 1, 2010
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Four additional members of last year's Midwest League championship squad will play in the Arizona Fall League. A total of nine Fort Wayne alums are on the league's rosters.

The Arizona Fall League is considered a "finishing school" for the best prospects in all of Minor League Baseball. Over half the starters in this year's MLB All-Star Game played in the Arizona Fall League. Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg, Cubs SS Starlin Castro, Braves OF Jason Heyward, Giants C Buster Posey and Mets 1B Ike Davis played in the AFL last year.

A roster shakeup for the Peoria Saguaros led to the San Diego Padres sending RHPs Erik Davis and Alexis Lara, LHP Colt Hynes and INF Andy Parrino to the league. They join RHP Brad Brach, INF Cole Figueroa and C Luis Martinez, who were already on the Saguaros' roster. In addition, RHPs Wynn Pelzer and Jon Link, now in the Orioles and Dodgers organizations respectively, are also expected to play in the AFL.

Davis, 23, set a Fort Wayne franchise record for wins, going 16-6 with a 3.64 ERA. He went 14-3 this year with stops at Advanced-A Lake Elsinore, Double-A San Antonio and a spot start for Triple-A Portland.

Lara, 23, was a key middle reliever for the TinCaps last year when he went 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA. He spent most of this year with Double-A San Antonio where he posted a 4-5 record and a 3.95 ERA.

Hynes, 25, opened last year in Fort Wayne and was a dominant situational lefty, going 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA before a promotion to Lake Elsinore. He was outstanding again in 2010 at Lake Elsinore and San Antonio, finishing the year with a 2.10 ERA.

Parrino, 24, was a Midwest League All-Star in 2008, then returned last year for a week-long stint and went 9-for-18 before a promotion. This year with Double-A San Antonio he hit .246 with 11 home runs in a utility role.

LHP Cory Luebke will not play in the Arizona Fall League after being included on the initial rosters. He made his major-league debut with the Padres on September 3.
