Franchise Record-Setting Win on Sunday

September 5, 2011
San Jose, CA - In their first year of affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes have established a new single-season record for wins, as they held on for a 7-4 victory over San Jose on Sunday night, marking their 79th win of the year.

J.T. Wise homered and drove in four, while Red Patterson won his sixth straight decision, helping the Quakes to their second straight win at Municipal Stadium.

Patterson got run support early, as Angelo Songco doubled home a run and Wise brought in another with a sac fly, as the Quakes took a 2-0 lead in the first over Giants' starter Andy Reichard (9-4).

Rancho added single runs in the third and again in the fourth, taking a 4-0 lead.

San Jose finally got to Patterson in the fourth, as Alex Burg doubled home Tommy Joseph, making it 4-1.

The Giants added another in the fifth, as Nick Noonan singled home James Simmons, cutting the Quakes' lead to 4-2.

Wise opened things up in the seventh with a cannon-shot to left field, a three-run blast off of Giants' reliever Michael Main, his 17th of the year to give Rancho some cushion at 7-2.

Patterson surrendered his final run in the bottom of the seventh, as Gary Brown took him deep to left, his 14th home run of the year, making it 7-3.

Bret Montgomery came on in the eighth and pitched around a pair of walks to work a scoreless inning.

In the ninth, Montgomery allowed another walk and a single, but with two outs, looked like he'd finish the job, when Tommy Joseph grounded a ball to Rafael Ynoa. Ynoa mishandled it though, as a run would come home to make it 7-4.

With the tying run due up, Logan Bawcom would come out of the bullpen to try and nail down the save. Giants' second baseman Ryan Cavan would line a Bawcom pitch softly up the middle. Second baseman Jaime Pedroza was able to back hand the ball on one hop, deep behind the second-base bag, but with no play at first base. Pedroza alertly saw Nick Noonan round the bag at third and unnecessarily head for the plate in an attempt to score. Pedroza then delivered a good throw to Wise, who easily made the tag on Noonan, ending the game and giving Bawcom his 13th save of the year.

Patterson (7-1) got the win with seven innings of three-run, seven-hit baseball. He struck out ten and walked just two.

The win for the Quakes (41-28, 79-60) leaves them with just one game remaining in the regular season, as Andres Santiago (8-5) takes on Chris Heston (12-4) with a special Labor Day start time of 2:00pm.
