Gagnon & Harvey combine on shutout for Rattlers win in game two

April 17, 2012
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Drew Gagnon pitched shutout baseball into the sixth inning and Seth Harvey closed out a 2-0 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers win over the Burlington Bees in game two of a Tuesday night doubleheader at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin and Burlington split the twinbill. The Bees won game one 5-1.

The only runs of the nightcap scored in the bottom of the fourth inning off Burlington starter Jonathan Joseph. Brandon Macias doubled to start the inning and Greg Hopkins moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt.

The Bees (6-6) brought the infield in, but Carlos George's high chopper to short left Wade Kirkland with no play at the plate on first. However, Kirkland's throw to first was wild and George reached. George made the Bees pay by stealing second and taking third on a wild pitch. Then, Tyler Roberts smacked a single through the drawn in infield to drive in George for a 2-0 lead.

Gagnon worked his way through minor jams in the first few innings, but he needed help in the top of the sixth. BA Vollmuth doubled to start the inning and one out later Gagnon walked Bobby Crocker to put the tying runs on base. Seth Harvey took over for Gagnon at this point.

John Nester followed with a bloop single to shallow center to load the bases with one out. But, Harvey turned things up a notch by striking out the next two batters to keep the Rattlers (6-6) in front.

Harvey made it a routine save by retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh with two more strikeouts.

Gagnon picked up his first professional victory with his performance. He scattered six hits over 5-1/3 innings. Gagnon's six strikeouts in the game bumped his strikeout totals for the season to 19 in 14-1/3 innings.
