Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (20-34) fell to the Greenville Drive (29-26) 6-3 to extend their losing streak to 8 games.
The scoring began with Greenville when a sacrifice fly by Che-Hsuan Lin scored Kristopher Negron, who had reached on a Greg Sexton error. Columbus answered back immediately when Shawn O'Malley roped a double to right center to score Jackson Brennan and knot the score at 1. Columbus would then add 2 more in the bottom of the 4th when Henry Wrigley laced a triple to left center to score Mike McCormick and that was followed by a Stephen Vogt double to left center that plated Wrigley.
Greenville took the lead when Ryan Kalish's single drove in Lin, who had singled and stole second. Michael Jones drove a single to score Kalish and then Jered Stanley hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give Greenville a 4-3 lead. Greenville would add 2 more in the top of the 7th when Lin tripled home Manuel Arambarris and Lin then scored on an Omar Luna throwing error that bounced up into the stands.
Greenville was led by Ryan Kalish (3-5 with a run, triple and a run batted in), Che-Hsuan Lin (2-4 with 2 runs, a double and 2 runs batted in) and Manuel Arambarris (2-4 with a run). Kyle Fernandes recorded his first win of the season after throwing 2 and 1/3 innings of shutout baseball, allowing only 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Bryce Cox recorded his 4th save after throwing 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing only 2 hits while striking out 4.
Columbus was led by Shawn O'Malley, who continued his hot hitting with a 3-4 day with a walk, double and run batted in. Henry Wrigley went 2-4 with a run, triple and a run batted in and Stephen Vogt was 2-4 with a run batted in and a double. Joshua Johnson picked up his 6th loss and 2nd straight as a reliever after allowing 3 earned runs in 1 and 1/3 innings.
The Catfish and Drive resume their series tomorrow at 7 pm at Golden Park.
