Generals knock off Suns 7-3

James Paxton earns his ninth win of the season Thursday

JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 30, 2012) - The Generals opened their final regular season homestand Thursday with a 7-3 win over the Jacksonville Suns at Pringles Park. Jackson improved to 42-24 at Pringles Park this season and overall, 77-59. The Generals elimination number for second half contention is just one. Chattanooga leads the Generals by four games with four to play.

Jackson fell behind in the top of the first inning 2-0, but quickly answered by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Mike Zunino collected a sacrifice fly to center and Brad Miller scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.

The Generals added three more runs in the second inning and took a 5-2 advantage. Stefen Romero brought in a run with sacrifice fly to center and then Mike Zunino delivered a 2-RBI single to right.

In the fifth Stefen Romero notched his second RBI of the night with a single that scored Brad Miller. Miller reached on his first Double-A triple. Jackson led 6-2.

The Generals capped their scoring in the sixth on a double by Joe Dunigan that plated Johermyn Chavez from first.

The Suns added a run in the ninth, but fell to the Generals 7-3.

James Paxton (9-4) earned his ninth with of the season allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits over 6.0 innings on the mound. Paxton struck out 6 and walked 2. Logan Bawcom pitched the final 2/3 of an inning in the ninth and tallied his 19th save of the season, striking out one.

Brad Miller was 3-for-4, scoring three runs on the night while Stefen Romero provided two RBI and was 2-for-4. Mike Zunino racked up three RBI and was 1-for-3 Thursday night.

The Generals and Suns meet again on Friday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. LHP James Gillheeney (0-1, 3.57) starts for the Generals opposite RHP Matt Neil (2-7, 4.34) for the Suns. Friday's promotions will include "Kids Eat Free Friday's", "Mystery Autographed Baseball Giveaway" and postgame concert from Jupiter Stone.
