Go Green with the Gwinnett Braves

Team Celebrates Earth Day April 22 vs. Durham
April 21, 2009

The Gwinnett Braves will celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22 when the G-Braves take on the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays) at 2:00 p.m. Fans in attendance will receive a Stadium Fun Facts giveaway, printed on recycled paper, and the team encourages fans to bring in their old electronics to be recycled. Electronic recycling provided by Electronics Recycling Services, Inc.

In addition to the events on Earth Day, Gwinnett Stadium plans to be environmentally friendly year-round. Below are some of the "green" features of Gwinnett Stadium:

  • All irrigation and toilet water in the ballpark is reclaimed water. Storm and waste water filters through a 5,750-foot network of underground pipes and into a retention pipe that is 12 feet in diameter. The system is expected to save a minimum of 650,000 gallons of water per year.

  • All structural steel in the building is made from recycled steel.

  • The carpet in the offices, clubhouse and club levels is all made from recycled material.

  • The stadium's cleaning supplies are all eco-friendly: green certified Optimum Hand Soap, green certified degreaser and green certified paper towels and toilet paper.

  • A proactive recycling program is in place that encourages fans, employees and even players to remember to use the recycling bins placed around the ballpark.

  • Fans can purchase tickets for Wednesday's contest, or any game this season, on the Gwinnett Braves official Web site, gwinnettbraves.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or at any TicketMaster location.
