Going, Going, Gone on Going Green Night

Clinton, IA - Home runs by Engel Beltre and Jonathan Greene highlighted a big offensive night, and left-hander Derek Holland blanked Quad Cities on three hits over 7.2 innings as the Clinton LumberKings won 9-0 over the River Bandits on the inaugural "Going Green Night" at Alliant Energy Field.

After missing the previous two nights, Beltre came out swinging in the first with a single to left off Bandits starter Richard Castillo. A sac bunt moved him into scoring position, and Mitch Moreland brought him home with a line single into center.

Leading 2-0 in the fifth, Beltre again came through. After Miguel Alfonzo reached on a one-out single, Beltre crushed a Castillo pitch into the packed Lumber Lounge in right for his fourth clout of the year.

The offense was only luxury for Holland (W, 7-0), who allowed only three hits all night while striking out seven. The All-Star lefty walked one and gave up only one extra-base hit - Oliver Marmol's hustle double to left.

The Kings put the game far out of reach in the seventh, scoring five runs. With left-hander Matt Spade on the mound, Cristian Santana came through with the bases loaded and two outs. He singled through the left side of the diamond, scoring both Alfonzo and Beltre. Greene followed up with the icing on the cake, touching up the scoreboard with his eighth home run of the season. The three-run blast made it a 9-0 game.

Hector Nelo finished off the rest of the game for the Kings, yielding a hit and a walk while striking out one over the final 1.1 innings.

Beltre finished with the "steak dinner" (four hits), going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Greene added three RBI with his 1-for-3 night, while Santana also drove in a pair, finishing 1-for-4.

Castillo (L, 1-1) was hammered for four runs on six hits over 5.0 innings. He walked none while striking out five for Quad Cities. Three River Bandits relievers gave up a total of five runs over the final 3.0 innings.
