Goldschmidt first to reach 20 homers
Goldschmidt became the first Minor Leaguer and second player in professional baseball to reach 20 home runs this season, ripping a two-run shot in Double-A Mobile's 11-6 victory over Huntsville. The longball and four-RBI effort came shortly after the Southern League announced the first baseman would be headed to the 2011 All-Star Game.
Goldschmidt, the D-backs' top-rated first base prospect, clubbed a two-run drive off Stars starter Cody Scarpetta in the first inning, tying him with Toronto's Jose Bautista for the most in baseball.
The 2009 eighth-rounder added a two-RBI double in the fourth and was intentionally walked and scored in the eighth.
The Texas State product, who hit 35 homers last season, has three home runs and 11 RBIs in his last 10 games.
He's more than lived up to expectations since his promotion -- he leads the Southern League in homers and RBIs (57) and ranks third with a .349 average. He began the season with a two-homer effort on Opening Day, April 7, and went yard the following day en route to hitting nine in his first 16 Double-A games.
Goldschmidt has knocked in five runs on two occasions and raised his average as high as .368 on April 29.
The native of Wilmington, Del., led all of Class A in home runs last year at Class A Advanced Visalia, where he hit .314 with 108 RBIs and was named the California League's Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player.
