Greene leads Dash's powerful offense

Center fielder drives in six in Winston-Salem's 14-7 victory
May 2, 2010
With batters such as Justin Greene, Ozzie Lewis and Brandon Short in the lineup, the Winston-Salem Dash appear to always be in the game.

The Dash easily disposed of the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 14-7, in Sunday's rubber match of their three-game series. Winston-Salem (17-6) pounded out 18 hits.

Greene did the most damage by driving in six runs, three with a longball in the fifth inning.

Ozzie Lewis led six Dash hitters at least two hits by connecting for a game-high five. He also scored four times.

Meanwhile, Short collected three hits to extend his hitting streak to 20 games, the longest in the Minor Leagues this season. Short plated three runs out of the leadoff spot.

The 24-year-old Greene raised his batting average to .356, and Lewis, also 24, bumped his to .367 -- which currently ties him second in the Carolina League. Short, 21, is not far behind at .364.

Wilmington jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, but Greene got Winston-Salem on the board in the second with a two-RBI single. The Dash added three runs -- two on Short's double -- in the fourth, and Greene highlighted a five-run fifth with his three-run jack.

Greene, a 20th-round Draft pick by the White Sox in 2008, completed his day by driving in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Lewis, chosen by the Twins in the 21st round in 2007, singled in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh. He was retired for the first time in the ninth.

Short was drafted by the White Sox in the 28th round in 2008.

Greene hit .279 last year in 130 games with Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League and Winston-Salem. Lewis batted .272 for Beloit in the Midwest League. Short hit .284 in 97 games for Kannapolis last season.
