GreenJackets Even Series Against Catfish

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (19-17) fell to the Augusta GreenJackets (25-14) by a final score of 7-4.

The GreenJackets began the scoring in the top of the 2nd when Thomas Neal hit a solo home run to left center field to give the GreenJackets a 1-0 lead. The GreenJackets would add 4 more in the top of the 5th, when Andrew Davis rocked a solo home run well over the right field fence to give the GreenJackets a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Shane Jordan laced a double that got caught up in the wind and went over Stephen Vogt's head for a double. Juan Ciriaco would take advantage, punishing a fastball from Jesse Darcy over the left field wall to give Augusta a 5-0 lead. Augusta would add one more in the 6th when Garrett Baker's double play ball scored Angel Villalona.

The Catfish got on the board in the bottom of the 7th when Vogt singled in Omar Luna and Vogt was caught at second attempting to advance on Jordan's throw to third in a bang-bang play. In the bottom of the 8th, Reid Fronk led off with a double down the right field line and was followed by a Greg Sexton single to left field. Quinn Stewart then fought off multiple pitches until the 11th pitch of the at-bat, when he laced a single to left field to score Fronk. With 2 outs, Chase Fontaine then laced a triple to left center to score 2 and make it a 6-4 game, but Augusta's Charlie Culberson led off the 9th with a home run to get the momentum back on Augusta's side and Ryan Paul fired a perfect 9th to save the 7-4 win for Augusta.

Every starter for Augusta had a hit and they were led by Andrew Davis, who was 3-4 with a home run and Angel Villalona, who was 2-4. Augusta starter Scott Barnes fired 4 shutout innings in his Augusta debut and David Mixon picked up the win after firing 2 and 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. Ryan Paul recorded his 2nd save of the season after firing 2 shutout innings.

The Catfish were led by Stephen Vogt, who was 2-5 with an RBI, Reid Fronk, who was 3-5 with a run and Omar Luna, who was 2-4 with a run. Jesse Darcy picked up the loss, his 3rd of the season, after allowing 5 earned runs in 5 innings of work.

The Catfish and GreenJackets continue their series tomorrow night at 7:00 with a pitching match-up of Alex Cobb against T.J. Brewer.

The Catfish are the low Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
