Grizzlies to sport 'Ninja Turtle' uniforms

Triple-A Fresno plans to auction unique uniform tops for charity
March 10, 2014

In an offseason already abuzz with bacon-themed caps and "Ghostbusters" uniforms, the Fresno Grizzlies appear to have raised the bar on wacky field apparel.

The Giants' Triple-A affiliate will have its players wear Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed uniforms on Aug. 2 after a mock-up of their new threads was leaked on Twitter. The club, keeping mostly quiet on the reveal, has yet to officially announced the theme uniforms, but did confirm that caps will be available to purchase this summer.

According to Yahoo! Sports, fans will vote which of the four versions of the turtle-themed jersey end up in a game -- the uniforms are trimmed in blue, purple, red and yellow to go along with matching caps.

The Grizzlies, a Pacific Coast League club in California, said the jerseys will be sold in a charity auction held during the game in August. They said more details should be available in the coming months.

The news follows the Lehigh Valley IronPigs' new bacon-themed uniforms and caps, set to debut this year. According to a report on ESPN.com Monday, the 'Pigs' have sold "almost 3,300 of the bacon hats and 1,500 bacon-strip scratch-and-sniff t-shirts." The Phillies' Triple-A affiliate is reportedly also rolling out bacon-flavored cotton candy and an on-field fan race that includes -- you guessed it -- eating lots of bacon.
