Gyorko goes deep at Alamodome

With injuries to Chase Headley and Logan Forsythe, the Padres are going to give top prospect Jedd Gyorko a regular spot in the lineup on Opening Day. Gyorko appears intent on making that as comfortable a decision as possible for manager Bud Black.

The 24-year-old infielder belted a two-run homer off Alexi Ogando in the fourth inning of the Padres' 5-4 loss to the Rangers on Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio. He went the opposite way and deposited a 1-2 pitch over the right-center field fence for his fourth Spring homer. Gyorko also walked as part of a 1-for-2 effort.
