Hamels pitches into sixth in rehab start

Rehabbing Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels pitched 5 2/3 innings but did not figure in the decision Thursday as the Lakewood BlueClaws dropped a 4-1 decision to the Hickory Crawdads.

Making his first appearance since being sidelined with a strained shoulder on May 24, Hamels allowed one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. He was working on a 55-pitch limit.

Hamels entered Thursday's start with a 0.84 career ERA at Lakewood -- second-best in franchise history. He allowed a single in each of the first two innings before inducing a pair of double plays. Brent Lillibridge led off the fourth with his seventh homer of the year.

Hamels, who has made two starts for the Phillies, is eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday.

Lillibridge, who went 3-for-3, led off the ninth with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on Andrew McCutchen's groundout. Three batters later, Jason Delaney's two-run single capped the scoring as the Crawdads (23-27) posted their fifth straight game.

Lillibridge fell a double short of the cycle, walking in the sixth.

McCutchen went 0-for-4 to snap a 11-game hitting streak, but teammate Brad Corley went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored to extend his streak to 19 games, one short of the South Atlantic League season high.

Jean Garavito (1-5) picked up the win with two hitless innings in relief of starter Blair Johnson, who allowed an unearned run and two hits through six frames. Romulo Sanchez tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his second save and send the BlueClaws (26-26) to their fourth straight loss.

Brett Harker (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up three runs in the ninth.

Avelino Asprilla collected two of the BlueClaws' three hits.
