Oklahoma City, Okla. - Lucas Harrell allowed one unearned run over eight innings, while a Drew Locke eighth inning home run led the Oklahoma City RedHawks (63-72) to a 2-1 win over the Iowa Cubs (62-73) before 9,964 Saturday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
RedHawks infielder Anderson Hernandez extended a hitting streak to 25 games, the longest in the Pacific Coast League in 2011, with a bad-hop single over the first baseman's head in the third inning. Hernandez finished 1-for-4, and is now batting .400 (44-for-110) in a streak dating to August 2.
Harrell (5-2) gave up three hits and one unearned run in eight innings, while dealing 123 pitches and 67 strikes in a winning decision. The first Cubs hit came in the fifth inning on a Matt Spencer single. Harrell's eight inning performance was the longest RedHawks start of 2011. Cubs reliever Carlton Smith (0-2) took the losing decision after giving up the game-winning home run in the eighth inning. Jeff Fulchino (2) saved the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
The RedHawks opened the scoring in the third inning with an unearned run against Cubs starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Hernandez reached on the bad-hop single with two out and scored when left fielder Bryan LaHair dropped a fly ball from Brett Wallace, giving Oklahoma City a 1-0 lead.
Iowa tied the score in the sixth inning with an unearned run. Marwin Gonzalez doubled with one out and scored on a D.J. LeMahieu fielder's choice when the shortstop's throw went into right field for an error, tying the score at 1-1.
The RedHawks took the lead for good in the eighth inning when Drew Locke belted a leadoff home run into the left-centerfield bullpen off Smith for a 2-1 score.
