Harrisburg takes two from Portland, 5-4 and 3-1

Sea Dogs have dropped four straight after winning the homestand opener

(Portland, ME) - The Harrisburg Senators (60-64) swept the Portland Sea Dogs (59-65) 5-4 and 3-1 in a doubleheader on Saturday night at Hadlock Field in front of 7,162 fans. The Sea Dogs have lost four straight and drop six games under .500 for only the second time this season. With Portland's two losses and New Britain's win over Reading, the Sea Dogs fall to 4.5 games behind the Rock Cats for the second playoff spot in the Northern Division.

Game 1 recap
LF Jemel Spearman provided the game-winning hit, snapping a 4-4 tie with a 2-out, 2-run double off losing pitcher RHP Chad Rhoades (4-2) for the Senators 5-4 win, which took 2 hours and 42 minutes. Harrisburg scored three 2-out runs in the final three frames to grab 2 leads and a tie. LHP Atahualpa Severino (3-0) worked 1.2 scoreless on three walks and two strikeouts to earn the win. Rhoades yielded one run on three walks in one inning to take the loss. Washington Nationals' 10th overall pick in this year's draft RHP Drew Storen worked the seventh to earn his 5th save of the year.

LF Daniel Nava smacked a 1-out, 2-run homer in the fifth inning to give Portland a 4-3 lead. Harrisburg tied the game in the sixth inning on RF Francisco Plasencia's 2-out single.

DH Jon Still gave Portland a first-inning 2-0 lead by cracking a 2-run double off the Maine Monster, scoring 3B Iggy Suarez and CF Ryan Kalish. Harrisburg stormed right back in the top of the second inning to tie the game on a 2-run double by DH Ricardo Nanita. Harrisburg snapped the 2-2 tied in the fifth inning off Province. Plasencia led off the inning with a triple and scored on a3B Joel Guzman's infield single.

Game 2 recap
RHP Brad Meyers (3-0) tossed his first professional complete game, holding the Sea Dogs to four hits (all with two outs) as Harrisburg outlasted Portland 3-1. Meyers threw only 74 pitches, 56 for strikes and a first-pitch strike to 18 of 24 batters. RHP Ryne Lawson (3-11) suffered the loss, yielding six hits and three runs over 5.2 IP.
Meyers, who made his 6th start in Double-A, scattered four hits without a walk and fanned four over seven frames. The righty retired 15 of the final 17 batters faced.

Harrisburg took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Lawson. With one out, 1B Chris Marrero singled and LF Bill Rhinehart launched a 2-run homer into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion in right field. Portland scored in their second on LF Jason Place's run-scoring single to plate 2B Ryan Khoury, who began the rally with a 2-out double.

The Senators added the final run of the night on CF Michael Daniel's run-scoring single to plate C Luke Montz. Portland and Harrisburg will play game three of their series on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM.
