Heathcott delivers in clutch -- twice

Slade Heathcott may not have the most power or speed in the Yankees system, but on Tuesday, the raw tools that made him a first-round pick came through to produce a pair of wins.

Heathcott's first Double-A homer stood up as a game-winner hours before his bunt single set up a walk-off hit by Ali Castillo to help the Trenton Thunder sweep a doubleheader with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-4 and 2-1, on Tuesday night.

The Yankees' No. 4 prospect slugged a three-run drive in the fifth inning off reliever Matt Wright to give the Thunder a two-run edge in the seven-inning opener. He finished 2-for-3 with a run before his bunt single moved JR Murphy to third for Castillo's walk-off single in the nightcap.

The homer was Heathcott's first Minor League dinger since Aug. 1, 2012, when he went 3-for-4 against Class A Advanced Charlotte. He also went deep in the Arizona Fall League for Scottsdale on Nov. 13.

Heathcott's productive day could herald a turnaround from the sluggish season start that saw the outfielder batting .161 with three RBIs in his first 15 games. He adopted a new daily life motto on Twitter, "Attack the Day." To that end, the 22-year-old hit the gym after helping author a pair of wins.

Trenton starter Caleb Cotham held the Fisher Cats to an unearned run on three hits over six innings in the second game after Matt Tracy earned his second win while allowing four runs on eight hits in six frames in the first game.

Kevin Pillar, Ricardo Nanita and Clint Robinson all went deep for New Hampshire in Game 1 in support of Ryan Tepera (3-1), who allowed five runs -- four earned -- on four hits over four innings.
