Hirsh earns 12th straight win for Express

Jason Hirsh extended his Round Rock record by winning his 12th straight decision in a 6-3 victory over visiting Sacramento on Tuesday.

Hirsh (13-2) has set three Express marks since he suffered his last loss on April 27 to Omaha. The right-hander pitched 35 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings to shatter Kirk Saarloos' previous record of 27 and went 47 frames without yielding an earned run.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Hirsh allowed three runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven innings as his ERA rose to 2.13.

Sacramento (59-52), who combined for 38 runs in three straight victories against Round Rock, went hitless over the first five frames. Hirsh retired 13 straight batters until Jeremy Brown hit his first pitch of the sixth over the left-center field berm.

The 2003 second-round pick gave up RBI doubles to Dan Johnson and Jason Perry in the seventh before handing the ball to Fernando Nieve. The reliever struck out four in pitching scoreless eighth and ninth innings to secure his second save.

Cody Ransom supplied the power for the Express (67-44), crushing a grand slam in the fourth to give Round Rock a 5-0 lead. J.R. House chipped in three hits, scored twice and is hitting .471 in five games since being promoted from Double-A Corpus Christi on July 28.

Sacramento starter Brad Ziegler (0-1) surrendered six runs on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk in 4 2/3 innings.
