Hirsh wins 11th straight

Jason Hirsh won a team-record 11th straight decision but had his scoreless streak snapped Thursday as the Round Rock Express shut down the Fresno Grizzlies, 6-1, at The Dell Diamond.

Hirsh (12-2) allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings, eclipsing Kirk Saarloos' 10-game winning streak in 2002. Hirsh has not lost since April 27 against Omaha.

The 24-year-old right-hander also shattered Saarloos' club mark by stretching his shutout streak to 35 1/3 innings. It ended when Lance Niekro singled home Jason Ellison in the sixth. Hirsh had not been given up an earned run in a team-record 47 innings dating to June 13.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound hurler has a 2.03 ERA in his last seven starts, yielding 22 hits and 12 walks while striking out 46 during that stretch. He leads the Pacific Coast League in victories and is second with a 2.08 ERA.

Jailen Peguero gave up a walk over two scoreless frames to record his first Triple-A save.

Joe McEwing and Brian Gordon hit solo homers for the Express (66-40). Charlton Jimerson broke out of a 4-for-50 funk with two hits, including a two-run double in the eighth.

Grizzlies starter Matt Kinney (5-6) surrendered three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Ellison led Fresno (42-64) with two hits.
