Home Woes Continue in Loss to Williamsport

June 26, 2011

Auburn, NY--The Auburn Doubledays are 5-0 on the road this year. Unfortunately, they haven't had that success at home. After dropping a 7-1 decision to Williamsport Sunday night, Auburn fell to just 1-4 in home contests.

For the third day in a row, the Doubledays' offense scuffled, posting just one run in the first game of a three game set. Sunday's one-run performance marked the third straight game where the Doubledays have scored three or fewer runs. That comes on the heels of seven straight games where the Doubledays scored five or more.

Sunday did have its bright spots for Auburn though. Hendry Jimenez, Russell Moldenhauer, and Matt Skole all extended their hitting streaks to seven games each. Colin Bates turned another good performance on the mound, giving up just two runs in his five innings of work. But a big seventh inning from the Crosscutters would spell doom for Auburn in the 7-1 loss.

The only run the Doubledays mustered came in the fourth off back-to-back doubles by Jimenez and Moldenhauer, putting the Doubledays down 2-1 at the time. Matt Skole came to the plate next and hit a missile to right that was snagged by Kelly Dugan, who promptly doubled off Moldenhauer at second for the third out of the inning. Unfortunately for the Doubledays, that was the closest they would get the entire night.

With reliever Travis Henke on the mound in the seventh, the Crosscutters would rally for five runs on four hits, keyed by a 2 RBI single by Patrick Murray and RBI double by Maikel Franco that turned a previously one-run game into a six-run Auburn deficit. The runs surrendered by Henke were the first in his professional career.
From there, the Williamsport bullpen did the rest, holding the Doubledays to just two hits the rest of the way, securing a 7-1 win.

The Doubledays will look to get back on the winning trail tomorrow night when they meet Williamsport for the second game of the three-game set. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm at Falcon Park. For tickets, visit www.auburndoubledays.com.
