CORPUS CHRISTI -- On Tuesday, Corpus Christi Hooks
president Ken Schrom announced a promotion within his front office staff and four new appointments.
Michael Coffin, 28, has been promoted from media relations coordinator to media relations manager. He will handle primary play-by-play duties on Hooks radio broadcasts in 2013 as long-time voice Matt Hicks moves to the Texas Rangers.
Coffin joined the Hooks six years ago. The Orange native is a 2006 Sam Houston State radio/television graduate.
Chris Blake, 23, is the new Hooks media relations coordinator. He worked Hooks radio broadcasts on an interim basis last season and will call the middle innings during 2013 home games.
Blake is a 2011 TCU broadcast journalism major whose background includes play-by-play work for the independent San Angelo Colts (2011) and in the Cape Cod League (2007-09). He has served as a public relations intern at the Baseball Hall of Fame and gained extensive experience in TCU student media. Blake also served on the assignments desk at Dallas NBC affiliate KXAS.
JD Davis is the Hooks' new director of ballpark entertainment. He succeeds Steve Richards, who accepted a marketing position with the Houston Astros.
Davis, 24, graduated from McMurry University (fine arts/theater, 2009) and Las Colinas' MediaTech Institute (2010). The Burleson native spent two seasons in video production for the Quad Cities River Bandits in Davenport, Iowa. Quad Cities, a Class A club in the Midwest League, recently realigned from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Houston Astros organization.
Charlie Kovar, 24, and Cody Cozart, 23, have been named account executives. Both hold degrees in sport management from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2012) and each minored in marketing. They were elevated to full-time status after year-long internships in the Whataburger Field ticket office.
Kovar is a 2006 graduate of Calallen High School. Cozart attended Academy High School in Central Texas and was part of a 2011 Davis Cup marketing/promotions team in Portugal.
Kovar and Cozart will sell Hooks sponsorships and all ticket products.
