Hooks Voice Hicks Calling Rangers Games

Filling in for Unspecified Period
June 30, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Corpus Christi Hooks president Ken Schrom announced Friday afternoon that team primary play-by-play announcer Matt Hicks will be working on a temporary basis for the Texas Rangers, effective immediately.

Michael Coffin, the club's media relations coordinator and secondary play-by-play man, has been tabbed to fill in for Hicks during the interim period.

Hicks is expected to be on-air Saturday when Texas plays host to the Oakland Athletics at 6:15 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. He'll join veteran broadcaster Eric Nadel, now in his 18th season as lead announcer on Rangers radio broadcasts and 34th season overall. Hicks is filling in for Steve Busby, who's moved into the Rangers TV booth.

Hicks, a veteran of 24 minor league seasons, joined the Hooks in 2004. He spent 10 years with the El Paso Diablos when that franchise competed in the Texas League. Hicks' first position in pro baseball was with the Frederick Keys from 1989-94. He's a 1983 graduate of the University of Maryland.
