Hoosiers, Irish soccer coming in April

IU, Notre Dame to lock horns at Parkview Field
February 28, 2011
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - College soccer will return to downtown Fort Wayne during the 2011 Shindigz National Soccer Festival. The Indiana Hoosiers are set to match up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in an exhibition match on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Parkview Field.

"We couldn't be more excited to team up with Shindigz and bring soccer back to Parkview Field," Shindigz National Soccer Festival director Terry Stefankiewicz said. "These are two nationally-respected soccer programs and we're proud to showcase them in Fort Wayne."

The Hoosiers have won seven national championships while the Irish have won five conference crowns. Both teams are coming off appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2010.

Tickets purchased in advance are $9 for adults, $7 for kids college age (college ID required) and under.

The TinCaps' "Thirsty Thursday" drink specials will be in effect, even though the game is scheduled for a Wednesday. Domestic drafts will be available for $1 each; well drinks are $2 each.

This will be the second straight year Indiana and Notre Dame have played at Parkview Field. The facility is the home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, Class-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

"Last year we couldn't have been happier with the Shindigz National Soccer Festival and we're looking forward to hosting it again," TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. "Parkview Field is a first-class facility and a big part of that is its ability to host unique events like this."

Shindigz returns as the primary title sponsor of the National Soccer Festival.

"We are proud to continue as the presenting sponsor of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival," Shindigz President Shep Moyle said. "As the largest party supplier in the country, we are excited to be part of a very special event at Parkview Field that will benefit all of northeast Indiana. We have enjoyed our partnership so far and look forward to continued growth and expansion of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival for the benefit of our youth and families across the Midwest."
