Hopkins named Midwest League Hitter of the Week

May 7, 2012
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Midwest League recognized something that the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have known for a couple of weeks. Rattlers infielder Greg Hopkins was named the Hitter of the Week in the MWL on May 7 for his performance from April 30 through May 6.

Hopkins, a 24th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers out of St. John's in 2010, went 11-for-20 with a double, a triple, two homers, six runs scored, and eight RBI in just five games last week. He also struck out just one time and stole a base.

The right-handed hitter has been on a tear since April 20. He has at least one hit in 14 of his last 15 games played (22-for-58). His recent hot streak has moved his season average from .233 to .320. Hopkins is currently fourth in the Midwest League batting race.

Hopkins and the Timber Rattlers are in action tonight with a doubleheader against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Game one starts at 5:05pm. The homestand continues with a game against the Kernels on Tuesday at 12:05pm and three games that start at 6:35pm with the Quad Cities River Bandits from Wednesday through Friday.
