Hunsicker Named EL Executive of the Year

October 4, 2012

PORTLAND, MAINE - The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Scott Hunsicker has been named the 2012 Eastern League Executive of the Year. The 2012 season marked Scott's sixth as the General Manager of the Reading Phillies, after spending the previous nine seasons as the Assistant General Manager of the club. Mr. Hunsicker, who was previously named the Eastern League Executive of the Year for the 2007 season, will receive his award at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee during the Opening Session on Monday, December 3rd.

Under Scott's leadership the Reading franchise welcomed a total of 426,623 fans in 67 openings at FirstEnergy Stadium this season, for a league-best average attendance of 6,368 fans per game. It is the 15th consecutive season Reading has topped 400,000 in total attendance. Those totals don't include the more than 18,000 fans in attendance for the two days of events at the Baseballtown All-Star Classic, which was the first Eastern League All-Star Game in Reading since 1974. As part of the festivities the R-Phils hosted a home run derby the night before the all-star game that was a one of a kind experience for fan, players and executives. The event featured players taking aim at a number of targets around the field, including a dunk tank and a crane in centerfield with a staff member waiting to catch any balls hit their way. While the contest was taking place a VIP party was held on the infield dirt with guests being able to eat and drink while being protected by a net. In addition to putting on an exciting and unique event for their fans, the R-Phils also used the Baseballtown All-Star Home Run Derby as a way to serve their community, creating a partnership that raised more than $30,000 for the United Way of Berks County and its partner agencies.

With the presentation of this award the Eastern League would also like to recognize the outstanding job performed by the entire Reading Phillies staff.

"The efforts of Scott and the entire Reading staff in putting together the 2012 Baseballtown All-Star Classic showcase why the R-Phils are one of the premier franchises in all of Minor League Baseball," said Eastern League President Joe McEacharn. "Those efforts alone would be enough to recognize Scott and the Reading organization, without taking into account the fact that the R-Phils also provided their fans with a full season worth of exciting and creative promotions that they've come to expect in Baseballtown. The commitment of Scott and the organization to the Reading community was also on full display with their partnership with the United Way for the home run derby, which was above and beyond their normal contributions to the community such as their work at Gordon Hoodak Stadium."

Hunsicker, a 1992 graduate of Albright College, has been with the Phillies for his entire career in professional baseball. Scott got his start with the R-Phils as an intern in 1992 and spent his first two seasons as a full time employee as a Tickets/Concessions Assistant. Following that Hunsicker moved on to hold the positions of Director of Tickets/Group Sales (1995-96), Director of Sales and Marketing (1997) and Assistant General Manager (1998-2006).
